| About got kids? By: William H. Yarroll II Executive Director and Founder Hello and welcome to the got kids? website. Back in 1999, I prayed a prayer that was to change my life forever. It went something like this, "God I give up on trying to figure out for myself what I should be doing with my time here on earth, you know me better than I know me. Show me what your purpose for my life is!" Then, Kayla showed up with her severe Anorexia Nervosa; Wendy showed up, with no arms and legs. After, Reeva showed up with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It became rather clear, very quickly, what my life purpose was and in turn my life passion. I've come to love each and everyone of these young persons in a way no words can describe. Whether it's being an advocate for them in the legal process or going through the difficult time with them as they have family and / or friend issues. It is proven to be the coming out of the real me. Two Groups, One Vision got kids? was officially a recognized I.R.S. 501(3) C charity in April 2003. Since that time, we have grown into a "dual purpose entity." The first being the same as our original mission statement; about young persons with emotional, mental, and physical disabilities. The second, having to do with those young persons who have been abandoned by both parents. Which is a growing phenomenon in the United States. These young persons are the focus of our additional vision of providing homes and a loving environment for them to grow up in. Now and the Future Currently we are operating from a leased three bedroom, two bath home in El Segundo for which we are very, very grateful. Our next goal is the purchase of the charity's own got kids? home. That home will prayerfully be in El Segundo. The move into that home would start off with young persons that are or who could be legally emancipated, as we operate at the moment. Eventually, depending on the growth of our operations and the age categories of need we could consider growing into the younger children who could not be emancipated. This step will of course require both more staff and training. |
